I dusted off my old Taru and renewed my old FFXI Online account. This game was released back in 2002 and still has some life left in it. A lot has changed since I last played but that's exactly what pulled me back in. The game has totally been revamped and is completely different from the old days. Leveling in FFXI was one of the most difficult challenges for players in the past. Pre Chains of Promathia expansion an average player would take about 1-2 years to reach the max level cap. Those days are long gone and honestly I can't say that I'll miss them.
Two of the most notable changes to the leveling system are Grounds of Valor quests and the ability to sync a party to a group members level. GoV is like a repeatable kill quest that grants a reasonable amount of experience. This isn't advised but as long as you are sync'd to appropriate level you can basically grind experience to max level in any GoV location.
Since GoV is not a traditional party normal etiquette rules don't apply. GoV groups mainly consist of random players in the zone grinding out the objective together. Here's a few general GoV etiquette tips that I suggest you follow.
- Turn your party flag on and edit your comment to reflect the page you would like to do
- Shout using the auto translator and keep it simple. "Any Vacancies? GoV Please Invite Me"
- Make sure you get buffs from the GoV book like regen, refresh and especially re-raise< - This is not a tradition Exp group so expect to be self sufficient. Have some form of healing
- Stay with the pack. You don't get credit for kills if you are too far away
- Don't whine and beg for buffs/debuffs. You will be killing easy prey mobs and if you want buffs/debuffs sub a job that has them.
- If you need to AFK advise the group
- If you need to AFK for more then 10 minutes please just disband
- If you are a leader add seekers promptly. We don't need solo players fighting for GoV spawns
- Leave the blue chest ethers for the MP users
- If you are a leader make sure your group is sync'd to the correct level for credit
- If you are a leader kick the leechers to make room for active players
These are just rough guidelines and in my opinion just simple rules to keep the GoV experience a pleasant one.
